Knoxville Museum of Art

Client Overview

A cornerstone of Knoxville’s creative community, the Knoxville Museum of Art (KMA) celebrates the artists and storytellers of East Tennessee. The museum provides a collaborative space for visitors to view and discuss new ideas while taking in sculptures, paintings, photography, and more. Constructed in 1990, the KMA’s current 53,200 square-foot facility is a Downtown Knoxville landmark, sheathed in locally quarried pink Tennessee marble.

A Work of Art

KMA’s award-winning exhibits are constantly changing. Unfortunately, the museum’s nearly decade-old website was static, preventing KMA staff from being able to easily update content and imagery. Every new page of the site had to be manually coded, which led to an unorganized navigation with redundant pages and a disjointed design. The BigWheel team transformed KMA’s site into a sleek, user-friendly source for upcoming exhibits, artist information, educational resources, and more. Instead of listing multiple exhibits at once, the new site has a clear hierarchy that puts featured artists front and center. Most importantly, KMA staff is now able to easily add and update content via a streamlined CMS. BigWheel has also provided promotional materials for the KMA over the past few years.
